Okay, because I'm hyper, I reseated the H90 water block after cleaning it off really nice. Now my temp maxed at 70C on Fire Strike. I still get a score that is lower than it was on the 2500K, which blows me away...

WAIT, still not buying it, but the time I ran it and got 10409 in May of 2015, my 970's memory bus clock was set at 1958 as compared to 1753 that I've been running this test all week.

    Check it out. http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/11403996/fs/4885650

Just ran it overclocked like before and got a similar result.

Starting to shape up at least!

Did you install the latest Nvidia drivers through GeForce Experience? If so, uninstall the entire driver package along with GeForce Experience, then reinstall it using the exe from this link; this time only install the Graphics Driver and Phys-X.

I installed it from GeForce experience. I guess I'll remove that and follow your lead.

Well it looks like your physics score has gone up from 12933 to 14139, so there was definitely some throttling going on, sadly it hasn't increased your score a whole lot, only a couple of hundred points. So yes there seems to be something else going on here too, I wonder if the newer drivers are just not as optimised for 3DMark with 970 these days? Certainly possible, Nvidia often drop optimisations for older hardware in favour of newer stuff.

If TNZ's suggestion doesn't help try rolling back to earlier drivers, getting progressively earlier and see what happens. It could also help if you had any other point of reference for performance when you were running the 2500k and the 970, did you run and take note of any other benchmarks scores or fps in games? It would help you to narrow things down, maybe it's just 3DMark suffering the performance hit?

Most likely, 3DMark and/or nVidia Drivers are just not optimized these days.

I think you are just about spot on without overclocking the GPU a lot.

Here is a screenshot of my 3 rigs with a similar config.

Why has no one noticed that pfilias was using 2 different drivers in both tests??
Everyone is focused on arguing whether his score is a result of being thermal throttled, YET it's his graphics score is different by over 1,800 points
It seems that the latest drivers, the 376.33 perform WAY WORSE than the older drivers...This has detrimentally affected his score

Why haven't you read the entire thread? From my post just a couple above yours:

Yep... I've accepted at this point that it's drivers. I move on... :)

    You guys have been great.
