Don't have the Ultra version but I do have the Deluxe version and I have to agree with you. It's so much more better then PowerDVD 8 and I quite like it.

    Re: PowerDVD 9 Ultra

I have it and I find it kind of irritating that it doesn't start if I set a custom resolution lower than 1280x720 through CCC. I need to use 1248x704 to get the picture to fully cover my screen, but PowerDVD deems that too low and refuses to start. Any way around that?

    @ trueHD
They just ++sharpness. This can be done with ffdshow as well.
I've never liked any of the powerDVD versions (or windvd for that matter).
They always make a big thing of how many awesome features it has..but in the end it's only 200MB larger than media player classic and doesn't do any better.....actually it does worse sometimes

PowerDVD is a marketing trick.. they give features that have existed for free a long time a cool name and make you pay money for it. The funny thing is that people think it must be good because you have to pay for it

Yeah that just looks like huge amounts of edge enhancement being applied, you can do that from the Nvidia control panel for free.

True Nvidia can do that. I have not played enough with it to figure how to do it..

Umm, can't you just double click on PowerDVD to make it maximize to fit the whole screen?

No, I mean that the program doesn't start at all. Instead of launching it displays an error message that I have lower resolution than 1024x768. If I set 1280x720, the program will start normally, but then I have black borders around the picture.
