    WoW - crafting at 80.

OK, I just started playing WoW again and I'm leveling my lock (main) and DK to 80.

What I wanted to find out is, does it still make sense to have a profession that makes stuff that you can use? For example, back in BC days every clothy had tailoring so he could make himself shadoweave set (or one of the other 2, I forgot the names). You had to specialize in that subsegment of tailoring, and the item was BoP (or bind on creation ).

Is that still the case in WotLK? Are there still EASY TO OBTAIN recipes, that you can only make for yourself at 80? As I don't do 25-mans, I'm a bit short on purplz [no] so if sticking with a particular profession can get me few more pieces, than I'm for it.

Also, is there a character level requirement for professions? I mean, can I level ie JC to 450, being a lvl 1 character, sitting in Org?

Speaking as a (currently) lvl 75 Blood Elf Hunter with Leatherworking, I say yes.

I've got some very nice items I've made, which I can't use until I'm lvl 78-80. Sure, they don't match up to the epic sets available, - but I don't have the time to raid, so I have to make do with the next best kit.

I'm pretty sure that Blizzard did away with the idea of BoP recipes for most professions besides jewelcrafting. There are BoP armor kits for leatherworking and tailoring, but they aren't incredibly better than the BoE kits and aren'tgamebreaking if you don't have access to them. Enchanting has ring enchants that are pretty nice, but again they aren't necessary upgrades.

Basically you can level two gathering professions and buy anything you need more easily than leveling a crafting profession and gathering the materials for the high level crafted items. Of course I haven't played since early December, so a patch could have changed all of that. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

No, pick whichever one you like really for now. You can sell whatever you craft with your profession and buy gear for your armour class.

If you are going to be raiding 10man or 25man content in the future, I would personally just take gathering profs to make gold (herb, mining) - due to everything being pretty much BoE, can easily buy new gear on the AH.

Although, being my guilds MT ive done away with herb and mining and gone for leatherworking (+90stam on bracers, cant remember the caster version) and I need to replace mining with Jewelcrafting for 3, 41stam gems.

But im gonna take my time with that one :P

    caster is +67 spell power

    and a lock :O

grab it! really all the locks i know rerolled since they acctaully need a rotation now and not just afk pressing button1 to top the meters....

DK is quite good - although the 9.9 BILLION of them is a little off putting.

I have to agree with you on this. Honestly the gathering proffesions are the way to go. Between 70 and 80 you should make between 3-5k at least if your smart with your money. At 80 just suck it up and buy a couple boe epics that are good for you and run heroics for more gear in prep for naxx.

DO NOT SPEND THE MONEY ON AN EPIC FLYING MOUNT. Wait until you get your epic gear, frost resist gear etc before you go spending money on an epic flyer. There are enchants, jewels, gear attachments etc that are going to cost you a pretty penny.

Do your daileys, rep grinds, heroics and gathering proff's for money and then buy your mount and whatever your heart desires.

I did the above and I am just getting to the point where I can afford a mount. If you look at my profile below from the armory you can see what I am talking about...the enchants on my weapons alone take 10 abyss crystals (at 250g ea) and 12 Greater Cosmic Essences (at 30g ea)...thats like 3k gold for each weapon! Dont even get me started on armor...

Good luck hope this helps a bit.

I have to add that Enchanting + Jewelcrafting are quite nice money maker professions too these days if you got some time to put on for the prospecting and enchanting.

    80 paladin - mining/swordsmith (should of went mace/axe)
    80 priest - enchanting/alchemy (money making)
80 shaman - skinning/herbalist (skinning for money and herbs for the priest)
    80 warlock - inscription/tailoring (bags mainly)
53 hunter - mining/jewelcrafting (dont really need atm)

you can powerlevel any profession at any time. i rather farm and hold all the items in the bank then powerlevel a profession once you get to 80. farming profession is a good way to make money while leveling (mining/herb/disenchanting) until you decide on what you want. in the end if you start raiding, the items you make will become useless just like WOW:BC. everything i got from KARA has been replaced at level 74 but greens and blue items

Most of the good stuff can be sold. That said they are due to add a lot of dropped plan's etc to instances in upcomming patches.

You get certain benefits. Blacksmiths for example can add extra gem sockets to their gloves & bracers.
