Question on E8200 ES vs. Q6600

    Quick Question for you guys.

I just got a E8200 Engineering Sample, I had one earlier but put it in a work PC but from what I remember it had a STUPID low VID (below 1.0v I think). This one I have in front of me is from the same tray.

Right now in my system I have an Q6600 with a 1.325 VID that can barely hit 3.0Ghz Stable. Takes 1.45v to even get that. And it gets pretty hot (35ish idle, 65ish PRIME95).

Now I mostly game and web surf. Occasionally I use Photoshop and what not.

My question is, should I go through the trouble of swapping it out? Would it even be worth it? Pretty simple question I think.

The writing on the chip is: 09HR ES Malay Q739A279.

    Thanks fellas!

what RAM and motherboard do you have?

personally I don't think it'll be worth it

that chip description makes my pants feel funny

How could you waste such a chip in a work PC?

Re: Question on E8200 ES vs. Q6600

i have a high VID on my Q6600 and am hitting 3.2 max with 1.52 actual volts....

running water cooling so never reaches more than 58c... on a G0 that is miles below the "max"....

But im at max voltage and dont wanna fry the chip coz i aint got the money to replace it at the mo....

i wouldnt bother swapping it out either....

Heh, I know. I had to choose between that and the Q6600.

Anyway, I remote logged into the office computer to check the stats and the VID is actually 1.136v. I was a bit off. Still pretty damn low.

So anyway, what do you guys think? And since it is an Engineering Sample, it should have an unlocked multi as well. (I hope)

I'd put it in, only if it were to see if you can up the multi and see how far you can clock it compared to your existing quad.

Also heat , power consumption may be a tad less compared to the Q6600.

You're getting me wrong, a 1.136vid is pretty damn good.

Re: Question on E8200 ES vs. Q6600

I just recently added a new mobo (Evga 780i) and the Q6600 (G0) and only adjusting FSB to 425, changed the 9x mulitplier to 8x and bam---3.4 ghz (stable) and max temps hitting 60-65 (on air cooler). I picked the Quad not just for the present but also for the future of gaming. Pretty powerful chip and easy to overclock. [thumbup]
