Can't Put Files Larger Than 4GB on Fat32 HDD??

I cannot express my frustration enough. I ended up buying a 320GB portable HDD for loading movies and music for play on my 360 and PS3. After finding out that my HDD was formatted wrong for use (NTFS), I was informed by my fellow onions that it needed to be formatted in Fat32. Well, I just encoded a movie that happened to be 4.3GB's, and was kindly informed that files over 4GB are too large to be transferred to anything but NTFS. What the friggin' hell? [cursing]

Yep, that's correct, 4GB is the maximum single file size limit for FAT32.

That is very upsetting. And FAT32 is the only file type that the PS3 can see? How is it that the PS3's HDD can see files bigger than 4GB. Is there any other way I can format the beast to allow a bigger file size? That's not even one DVD [no]

The filesystem used by the PS3 for its internal HDD is not Fat32 and will allow much larger then 4GB per file. (Not sure of the exact size but I have several HD videos up to 8GB and they are all fine).

Unfortunatly however both the X360 and PS3 can only read/write to Fat32 for external media. Therefore you either have to transfer your files larger then that size to the PS3's internal HDD, stream the video's to the PS3 from a media server or split the files down to 4GB segments.

Personally I bought a 250GB 2.5" HDD which now sits in my PS3. These drives can be picked up nice and cheap and are very easy to install (took approximatly 5mins). Also the PS3 handles the backup of you data for you so you can easily restore everything once you have the new drive installed.

Seems 360s can use hfs+ without too many problems as long as its formatted that way within windows or a 3rd party application. However i dont think the ps3 can read it.

You can put films/files larger than 4GB on the ps3, all u have to do is transfur them usin network file sharing from ur pc to ur ps3 via wireless or ethernet, and instead of streamin just goto copy on the ps3 options

I put a 320GB drive in my PS3 for $80 over a year ago. I am sure now you could get a 500GB for the same price.
