    WOW is saving me money....

Got back into WOW last week after 6 months away - and it suddenly got me thinking.

For the last week I have pretty much just played WOW, no other games really. During my 6 months away from WOW I bought a bunch of other games, some of which I played through to the finish, and others that I got bored of pretty quickly.

Even after having paid the WOW monthly fee, I'll be buying less other games than when I am not playing WOW, so on balance I think I'll actually save money playing WOW .

I would not say I'm spending any more time behind my PC than before, but it is costing me less in terms of games purchases thats for sure.

It's the same with any MMORPG to be honest.
I played Ultima Online for years before actively playing the likes of Anarchy Online, SWG and most recently EQ2.
(Although I have played every MMORPG released at some point or another).
During my time in those games I gave a lot of my time - not playing "Level as fast as you can" but rather playing and enjoying the game.
I'd say 90% of my gaming time was spent on whichever MMORPG I was playing at the time.

I stopped playing EQ2 a while ago and as there really aren't any decent MMORPG's out there at the moment (I know WOW has its fans - but I rate it as dire) I've been buying a lot more games recently.
As you said, some I liked, others I haven't.
I'd much rather be spending £10 a month on an MMORPG then buying all these other games - I just hope 2008 brings us something good in the MMORPG world *Fingers Crossed*

I tried LOTRO, but that got boring after about 5 days, when I realised that there is really not that much to actually do (at least not compared to WOW). Thankfully I only paid 22 euro for it, with the first month free, so no big loss. Graphically though I was impressed with LOTRO.

A "WoW beating" MMORPG would certainly be appreciated I agree. Whilst I like WOW, I do yearn for something with better visuals, that benefits from WOWs gameplay mechanics and approach, but polished up and improved still further. I was hoping that Tabula Rasa would be such a game, but from what I have read its a major letdown. Heck, its not even got an auction house yet, which means there is no player economy at all!

Re: WOW is saving me money....

Plenty of others actually make money off of wow. WOW is without a doubt the most popular mmo for gold sellers and farmers

True, gold farmers tend to be koreans, etc grinding for 20 hours a day 7 days a week for f all money in poor living conditions

But gold sellers can be anyone, anyone who can make a few thousand gold over even long periods of time. I definitely dont condone it and it defeats the purpose of playing in the first place for those that buy it but a lot actually sell the gold they dont think they will have a use for. especially those who quit, its possible for someone to have 10k/20k + etc, gold after a few years for even casual players and then just decide to quit, depending on what server your on there are sites that will buy that gold off you for a considerable amount and then resell if for more. Most gold buyers prefer this as its 100% pure profit, they do nothing but accpet a transaction from you and get cheap gold in the process. i have actually checked months ago and just 5000 gold will cost you maybe €150 +. Which is absolutely insane!!

I do not condone it... It even goes against blizzard terms and conditions, if you are found to be selling gold your account is banned and in some cases your ip is blacklisted on their servers. you are treated much the same as any other gold farmer/seller.
