    Shave!

Seriously, how long is the hair? if it's short (less than 1cm / 10mm) then it is likely to be 'sharper' as it gets longer (curly more pube like*) it'll become softer.

Mind you, facial skin is more sensitive than other parts of the body and even if you get your goatee soft then you're still likely to irritate her skin.

This brings me back to point (1) - Shave!

    *waits for infraction....

It gets softer when it gets longer, but that doesn't always look that nice. I'd have to shave twice a day if I wanted to keep it smooth enough not irritate my girls skin.

Dude... you're talking about a woman. The chances are, if you shave it like she wants, she'll dump you.

Hmmmm, you could WAX the hair then wait for it to grow back.... shaved hair always feels all prickly when it grows in.[yes]

Glad I'm a redhead. My face fluff is nice and soft, and its colorful too. On the downside I can't get a clean shave.
