    Old HDD with Vista

So, not so long ago i bought myself a 250GB HDD and installed Vista Ultimate onto it. A month later my 250GB HDD died, kept getting constant BSOD. I sort of figured it was my HDD because i uninstalled Vista and went to install XP Pro, but couldn't without getting BSOD. So I tried my mums 40GB HDD and it worked fine.

Question: So today I just bought a 320GB HDD and want to install Vista again. Now my 250GB HDD isn't exactly dead, and I don't want to chuck it away, so i was wondering if it where possible to use it as a secondary drive without getting a BSOD, since my main OS will be on the 320GB.

    Please post soon.

Well, would you trust in data storage that 'isn't exactly dead'?

Yeah, we all do. Possibly you could use the old drive as a cache for indifferent and unimportant stuff and pieces, but I'd give it a rough test in the Linux environment to check out if the drive really has problems or are they just from the bloody awful operating system it's forced to run on.

Never tried linux. But the funny thing is, is that the HDD work's fine, i can install stuff on it etc it just has a habbit of crashing every now and than. Usually like evry 3rd day it would just die, and i have to start up in safe mode., anyways, ill give it a go, see what happens.

EDIT: When i mean crashing, I mean the HDD will spin and read/write normally. Than it would sound like its struggling, than it would go quite and stop working. Similar to a DVD/CD drive when its not working properly

Hmm, I don't think I'd trust a drive doing that at all. If you haven't bought it too long ago, there should still be a warranty on it. Why don't you send it back to the manufacture so you don't have to go through the problems? At least that's what I'd do...
