Im currently using a HEC WinOP 550Watts and its stated on the spec sheets that its a Dual 12v PSU. 12v1=18a 12v2=17a . is ther a specific advantage/disadvantage on dual voltage PSU ? and how do i ensure the balance of usage on both rails, does the PSU do that for me or depends on which power connectors i use?
it depends on cables i think, so you can keep things like GFX and HDDs seperate for example, my Tagan supports dual @ 20A, but it ships default as 30A in single mode.
Not all PSUs have a single mode and my Tagan mentions nothing about how the dual function works, so I just keep it in single mode.
Ok thanks, i guess i have nothing to worry to much as i dont use a SLI system yet and only got 1 optical drive and 2HD's running on my 550, also ive already made sure that my videocard and HD use a different cable line
IIRC Dual or more rails give cleaner power to your hardware but then it is not reccomended for people who do extreme OCs. A single beefed up rail will be your choice if you want to OC the crap out of your hardware. But then that doesn't mean that dual or more rails cannot be used to OC. They are just not , how do you say? uh.. suited I guess for OC-ing.
Its like a case of the PSU reviewed by Guru3d not long ago I think , the PSU cannot handle SLI or Crossfire setups because it had three rails and then the 2nd rail is dedicated for the GFX card but then two high end cards eating off that 2nd rail caused the rail to exceed it's peak limit and thus shut down.
But then the company had resolved the case and said that they will put one card on one rail. Meaning the 1st card on the 2nd rail and the 2nd card or the 3rd rail.
