A single beefed up rail will be your choice if you want to OC the crap out of your hardware. But then that doesn't mean that dual or more rails cannot be used to OC. Its like a case of the PSU reviewed by Guru3d not long ago I think , the PSU cannot handle SLI or Crossfire setups because it had three rails and then the 2nd rail is dedicated for the GFX card but then two high end cards eating off that 2nd rail caused the rail to exceed it's peak limit and thus shut down.
But then the company had resolved the case and said that they will put one card on one rail. Meaning the 1st card on the 2nd rail and the 2nd card or the 3rd rail.
