    Camera view in racing games

Having just watched the latest trailer of the upcoming DIRT game, I found myself (once again) being highly annoyed by the fact that all gameplay video makers seem to think that players use the third-person, behind the car view to play.

I say this is bull - no one in their right mind would play any halfway serious racing game from the third person view - all real driving is done by from the first person (in cockpit) or first person (hood ornament) views. Or am I wrong?

    Third person (behind the car)
    First person (in cockpit)
    First person (hood ornament)

I use hood view, mostly because it's hard to see from inside.

Ah, forgot to put my own loose change into the pot - I also prefer the hood ornament view. While the in car gives perhaps feels a bit more realistic, I don't really really like it because of the limited view. If I had a three monitor setup to use it with I might, but as long as I'm limited to just one the hood ornament view gives the best illusion of having sufficient peripheral vision.

I always use 3rd person because I can control the car better (see how it's sliding/position relative to road etc) and also beacause I can see upcomming corners better.

Usually third person. It depends a bit on the game though.

The one and only "First-person (hood ornament)". There is no other option.

    Cheers,

I'm a thirdy myself - any claims that in-car or on-the-hood are "realistic" is nonsense anyway, so might as well make the view in ones favour.

Sure as hell is more realistic than the third-person birds eye view, which makes you feel like you're driving an RC car :)
