Problems running 3DMark06 in Vista? Look here!

    Hey All!

It seems that there are some users that can't get 3DMark06 to run in Windows Vista, and namely in Vista 64 bit. Here are some steps you should take in case you can't get 3DMark06 to run:

    1. Please only use our official mirrors if you are about to download 3DMark06. We can't control what other un-official sites are hosting. Check our official mirrors from here: http://www.futuremark.com/download/3dmark06/
    2. Make sure that the version of 3DMark06 is 1.1.0 (latest one)
    3. You need to install everyting that comes with the 3DMark06 installer (OpenAL, DX Update and obviously 3DMark06)
    4. If you are running Vista 64 bit you will also need to install a separate OpenAL installer:
    http://developer.creative.com/articl...&top=38&aid=46
    5. In some cases (we haven't been able to reproduce them in our labs) the DX update doesn't install or install correctly. It is required to install it for 3DMark06 to run, so please download the latest DX updated here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
    6. Install the latest available WHQL drivers from your graphics card vendor (FM Approved prefered)

Another thing you may want to look into in case you are experiencing "Lost Device" errors in Vista when running 3DMark06, is Vista's TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery). You can find more info about it (and how to disable/edit it) here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...m_timeout.mspx

Please note that playing around in your registry is not recommended unless you have experience with it.

I hope this will help. Do keep in mind that Windows Vista 64 bit is not an officially supported OS for 3DMark06. I'll leave this thread open in case you guys have some comments.

    Cheers,

    Nick

Dang...I seen this thread and thought there was an update.
I'm already setup per those instructions..... so I still await nVidia to produce a proper driver for me. They claim it's just a week away...we will wait and see (if it works).
I'm still using 100.65 drivers with Vista 64bit, and still have the same SLI on, will lock up with full 3dmark06 test. Other than that, and a nTune that will work for multi cpu's (not cores)...everything else is all good.
I will repost after those drivers are released.

May I remind that Top score in Vista is on 64bit version .[rofl]
So Nick I think that is human error main problem after all, not 3DMark06.

I doubt I'm even close to the Top but at 16,081 on Vista 64bit my system is running fine.
The only issues I've had where over O/C causing instability, not Mark6's fault.

    No real problems, but...
In 3DMark06 advanced, my rig shows "linked display adapters - False" when I look at my system details. The Nvidia control panel, however, indicates I have SLI enabled. Could this perhaps just be due to the fact that mark06 is not yet supporting both (64bit vista and the beta video drivers) items I am using? All your drivers are belong to us ...er, whoops, I mean all my drivers are up to date.[beta]

Update: Nvidia released new drivers today. I just put 101.41 on yesterday, too. Time to do it again!

Update: New drivers are in place. Things are working ok, but still the same linked display adapters false message. 3dMark06 score was in the top 19,000 - although it doesn't really count because of the drivers...

The beta nVidia drivers released today has stopped the error mentioned in my 1st post.
Full test with SLI does not lock up anymore.

I get an error stating that my system does not support SM3.0. I am running Vista 64 with 2 Radeon x1900s. They support Shader Model 3.0.

That's odd. Please make sure that you have the latest Catalyst drivers installed properly. The Radeon X1900 sure is an SM3.0 capable card and should be able to run all graphics tests in 3DMark06.

    Cheers,

    Nick

We are up to nVidia drivers 158.43 (beta) and things are slowly getting even better for Vista 64bit and SLI.

I was wondering if FM is having any luck/progress with 3Dmark06 or another version?
Still looking forward to it showing proper SLI/Co-Adapters and video memory size in the scores.
Surely it would increase our current scores.

i also experience the same problem. i use vista 32bit with 2 ati rad x1650 tx.

the HDR/SM3.0 Graphic Tests and Perlin Nose (SM3.) can be done.
BUT the Shader Particles (SM3.0) it says N/A

i thought ati rad x1650tx works with 3dmark06? hmmmm.

    i am using crossfire mode.

    thank you.
