GRRR I am pissed!!! MSI mobo

I recently bought a motherboard off of some forums MSI MS-6741 socket 754 mobo agp 8x

The problem I am having is that the AGP rate will not go above 4x, I have options 1/2/4x speeds. It says on the frieking northbridge cooler AGP 8x!! I have updated the bios to version 1.60 which is the newest version. I contacted MSI about this but I googled and several other people are having this problem.

I only have a 9800PRO and when installed the mobo just beeps at me, trust me it is not the power cord either. This was supposed to be my mother's PC but now I am ready to toss the POS. Everything works fine with my Radeon 7000 :(

Anyone have a possible solution for me? I am really desperate as I sold all my gfx cards except the 9800 pro and need to do some 3d animation for work like really soon.

From what I understand, the reason you cannot select AGP 8x with the ATI 7000 installed is that the ATI 7000 is an AGP 4x card.

As to why your 9800 doesn't work with the MSI board I don't know. If you are sure that the video card is in working order then try resetting the CMOS once you have powered down and removed the ATI 7000, usually this involves moving a jumper over for a few seconds.

Once the CMOS is clear fit the 9800 to the motherboard making sure it is seating properly and power the computer back up. If things still aren't working and you are getting no video signal at all then it might help to report back the pattern of the beeps you are hearing so we can diagnose further.

I know its probably a dumb question but you made sure you plugged the power connector in on the 9800 Pro, right?

I reset the CMOS numerous times, also it is seated properly as it works on my nf2 mobo but not this one. I checked on the mobo and it accepts only 1.5V agp cards. I thought hte 9800 PRO was compatible? I cannot check on the beeps yet due to I am at work, also the power cord is plugged in correct.

The 9800Pro would work on this motherboard, maybe its broken? I never had a socket 754 motherboard, but dont you have to install "AGP drivers" on NF3 and NF2 boards?

Anyway, the 9800Pro is 100% "comaptible" with your motherboard.
