Based on the fuel price trend, I will fill up often when the prices are rising and wait longer when the prices are dropping.
But I try to avoid going below a 1/4 of a tank.
Half full, then when I fill up it feels like I am spending less. Half full is usually after 150 miles.
also remember guys that filling up when your tank is empty can be quite bad if your tank has sludge because your engine has been sucking that **** up for the last few miles before fill up and when you re fill you disturb the sludge so it mixes with the new clean fuel.

I always leave it till it's down to the last 6 litres. I know I really shouldn't it's just a habit i've gotten into.
Once it gets down to about 1/4 left, I'll fill up when it's convenient. I sometimes fill up at 1/2 full, sometimes when it's touching the "E," but mostly I try to go by the 1/4 rule.
I always go from full to empty and then filled to the brim again. I dislike refuelling so much I try to avoid the experience as long as possible. [thumbdown]
When the warning light comes on I'll consider filling up![]()
Almost never lately, though I did top up the other day, good thing too, price jumped by 0.08 a litre (again)
I fill at half full, because I fill up once a week. My car uses around half a tank per week.
Typically I fill on a Monday or Tuesday when the fuel is at its cheapest.
I always like to keep topped up because...
#1 you never know when you need to have the fuel.
#2 I've heard it's not great to run your car with a low tank all the time (sediment in the tank). I'm sure filling it up and going near empty is ok. However I can't really make it two weeks with one tank sometimes. Depends on how often I go out and what I do, and if I've thrashed the car a little more than normal.
Better to fill at half a tank for $1.15 than run out when it's $1.35.
