Best laptop for £1000 (UK)

I am looking to buy a laptop in the next day or so online

- UK
- Budget of around £1000 (maybe £100 more if its exceptional)
- Minimum 1gb ram
- 7200rom hdd
- A half decent DEDICATED gfx card for RTS games
- Good warranty options

I have been looking at dell, but the deals they have on at the moment aren't that great.

I have also been looking at ACER, but I am not sure how the "build quality" of the acers are compared to dell (are they solid enough?) I don't want any creaky plastic etc.

A geforce go 7600 should beat that x1400..

The Acer Ferrari notebooks are overpriced for the specs. I paid £600 for my Acer 5024 and it has almost identical specs to an Acer Ferrari that costs near £1000.

With a budget of £1000 I would be looking at something like this:-

Which is the better gfx card out of the two? (and by how much)

If I went for the Nvidia gfx laptop, I could get the 3 year extended warranty w\accidental damage cover for just over £1000

I don't mind paying the extra though if the x1600 is noticably better!.

If you can get student discount and stretch to £1200 then a MacBook is pretty meaty. You will need Bootcamp to get XP running though, if your not into Mac's then disregard this post [no]

I would say they are very similar but would go with the X1600 just for the extra memory and features.

That X1600 comes with 256 MB memory (512 with hypermemory)

hmm if I went for the x1600 lappy, the website says "2 years warranty"

If i purchase the Extended 3 year warranty, how many years warranty total would that be?

(If I only get 3 total, then the £100 warranty seems a lot for just 1 extra year)

And yeah, the x1600 only has 256mb dedicated memory (like the 7600)
