That's a great idea, and one I always though of implementing. It's now officially on my list of things to do, especially after ignoring this FAQ for a while (I figured it was as good as it was gonna get).
I've also updated the FAQ with an optimal viewing distance calculator. Thanks to ptaaty for this one.
And Chron, your input is greatly appreciated. I've now fallen on plenty of extra time (my new job allows me to surf the web), so I'll also be implementing your information here soon, as wll.
Does anyone know the answer to why 1366x768 is used on plasmas and lcd's wheras it should be 1280x720 to have a 1:1 pixel mapping?
DJ, you need to add a link to this:

An amazingly complete article on 1080i vs 1080p, source materials of 1080p24, how they get displayed, what is lost during scaling up and down and more...
A very very informative read.
Just wanted to say thanks for the FAQ [thumbup] .
I already have an HDTV, but was looking for information regarding proper calibration and remembered this thread. The link provided to the CNET site was quite helpful. As one of the recommendation by CNET, I've order the "Avia Guide to Home Theater" calibration DVD. I look forward to getting the DVD this week and properly calibrating my 50" Samsung DLP.
How about adding the new reference levels settings to help the VGA washed out look on the 360.
Also what about 576i as a supported res for us PAL users, wouldnt wont people using 480i on the Wii`s when they maybe could be using 576i, i dont have a HDTV but i assume its supported.
Nice FAW man, got a quick question though. When i play my xbox sometimes when a bright white screen appears i lose my signal for a few secomds, why does this happen ?
Must be a TV fault, have you checked if there's a firmware update for it?
