I'm looking for a program that is able to write a log file of how long a computer stays on. I wanted to try this on my laptop and see how long the actual on time is vs the estimated time shown. I also wanted to find out the difference between battery time from having WiFi turned on/off. Thanks in advance
Re: [Searching] A program to monitor & log on time
I have 2 solutions for you, which will let you determine how long your laptop battery lasted before it is depleted.
I take it you are using WinXP/2k? The first solution is not exactly a program but some Windows tools. Its simple: system logs when laptop is started and logs again when it shuts down (when battery is almost empty). Subtract time2 with time1 and that is how long the battery lasted.
This can be done in 3 steps:
1) enable loggin
2) configuring laptop what to do when battery is low
3) viewing the log files and calculate.
If you are interrested I can post the whole procedure for you.
Second solution is a bit more logical physics or so. Just calculate how much power is consumed based on an hour and then calculate how long the battery will last. You have to enable the systray battery icon so you know the percentage remaining of the battery.
after 1 hour you have 55% remaining. So the battery will last:
100% / (used percentage) x 1hr =
100/(100-55) x 1hr =
~2.22hr = ~133.33 minutes
For with/without WiFi repeat the steps and compare.
Hope this will help a bit.
