How much more can I get out of sli 6800GS

Hey guys, I need to know if I can squeeze more performance out of these puppies. They are located in an Assus A8N32-SLI - Dlx.

I just read that the PCI-x version can not be moded.

So can these puppies be OC'ed? and what do I need to do it?

What difference could I expect if I sold them and picked up a 7900GT?

the 7900gt will own both of those cards..and u can do volt mods on the 7900 to get "wow" overclocks..what do ur cards hit now..just for a reference..with a volt modded 7800gt i hit 5083..and the 7900 will def out perform my card..u can overclock without volt mods..u just wont get as crazy as overclocks..just do a google search for coolbits..dl it..then right click ur desktop..properties..settings>advanced..click ur 6800gs tab..then look for clock frequency settings..click manual overclockin..and an easy way to start is "detect optimal frequencies" ..apply it..run it..see what it does..then start goin up from there..goodluck post results before after..

my 6800 GS SLi has been pretty gewd to me. it lasted for awhile, plus new 91.45 forcewares unlocks TSAA on the 6 series too, which was only available on the 7 series. Look at my scores, it give a run to many of the 7900 GT owners. Plus i can run FarCry, Doom3, and HL2 like butter smooth graphics at 1024x768 no aa/af. SLi works well with my X2 4600 dual core processor too.

I'm sure I've seen someone else running 2x6800GS on these boards, and If I remember rightly, there 3dmark05 score was slightly better than my XT score, And I'm sure the XT is equal to a 7900GT, so I would'nt be so keen to get rid of them, unless of course, your finding that they are slow in some of your games, then maybe a single faster card would be a wiser choice.

If your just wanting to get rid of them because of a few benchmark scores, then I personally think that if they suffice for your games, then you should stick with them, at least until the DX10 or rather Direct3D10 cards come out .

And their '05 score was slightly below mine, but their '03 score well exceeding mine!

I guess benchmarks are'nt completely conclusive though, on how well a system performs in games,
I can run virtually any game apart from Obvilion and FEAR at 1680*1050, 16xAF & 6x AA at well above a average framerate of 50fps.
On the CSS benchmark on those settings with everything on high and HDR on I get 119fps.

I'm going to start with OC and see what happens. I think waiting for DX10 is a good idea. I havn't benched them at all, but I'll see what happens.

Think I'm considering going board, chip and ram instead from 3500+ to 6300, then OC the crap out of it!

Overclock the crap out of them and you'll see a nice performance boost Mine have certianly lived up to my expectations, though Airforce1 still has me by 7 points in '06 with a single core CPU I ditched the stock coolers for Zalman VF700 AlCu's and Vantec Copper RAMSINKS, much quieter, slightly better OC. I've always just used Coolbits for overclocking, setting the Dword to 1A in the registry.

2 x 6800gs's are faster than 1 x 7800gtx, and I can run the games you mentioned 1280x1024 4xaa 8xaf smooth as no problem.

My games run nearly butter smooth, but set at 1440x900 with alot of AF and some AA enabled (or HDR) with just one card. [rolleyes]

Hey I talked it over with a friend today and he confirmed that bringing the 7900 series into DX10 would just need a firmware upgrade. Then have drivers updated too. He said that NVidia was working on this. Anyone find anything on the net? Got a 7950 GX2 that would be nice to carry on

It doesn't have DX10 compliant hardware...
