I have an MSI 890FXA-GD70 board. Really nice board imo for the price. I have tried two different dual core processors, but windows and bios only report 1 core. I tried "unlocking" the second core and I don't get a post. What could be the issue here? One CPU is a 65watt, and the other is a 20watt. Do both 4 pin power connectors need to be plugged in for the CPU? The mobo has phase leds on it, phase 1 through 4, and only using phase 2 and the phase 3 light blinks off and on. Not sure if that has any information in it that would fix the issue.
You should have called this : "Two cpu's, one core."
Anyway, I had an MSI mb that gave all kinds of weirdness when trying to "unlock" cores.
try setting the default bios settings and then.:"Set "Unlock CPU Core" to ENABLED, cpu core control to MANUAL ."
Personally I would update the bios first and see if that doesn't solve the problem, it could just be an older bios that doesn't fully recognize your cpu properly.
BIOS is v1.13 which came out in January. v1.14 is the latest but came out just 2 months later.
A BIOS update might work for the Athlon II 170u which this board supports, but I tossed in a Athlon II 240 that has been around since the Athlon II was launched and still the same thing. Just 1 core.
I'll try that BIOS settings. Currently at default. Though at least with the 170u when I enabled CPU unlocking it wouldn't post. I went a head and plugged in the second 4pin cpu connector, and as I thought no difference. :-(
MODS:
If it would be better for the title to be changed to Tino's recommendation, change it please. :-)
