Skyrim 1.7 patch and Dawnguard - did they add new graphics?

I have not played Skyrim in a while and now with 1.7 patch and Dawnguard I feel like vanilla graphics improved, as if more shaders or better textures are used, but this is a pure vanilla install + Dawnguard + 1.7 patch. Am I just noticing placebo?

I know a few patches ago they upgraded to high res textures. I don't know about Dawnguard. I refuse to pay $20 for dlc. At 9.99 it would have been a no brainer $20 seems greedy.
