To be honest, i think both Epic & ID could do far worse than giving UT99 & Quake III an update. Personally I would love to see both games updated, taking full advantage of current hardware.

I love a good well exectuted shooter and Metro 2033 and Hard Reset delivered this.
Like me, at least you have Metro last light to look forward to.

Unreal Tournament 1999 on Unreal Engine 4. Same gameplay, sound, and music. Better graphics!

It wouldn't be the same. Using a different engine it would be damn near impossible to recreate how UT99 felt, in terms of movement and physics.

Re: Carmack Confirms Doom 4, Apologizes for Rage PC

I played through Rage on the PS3 and quite enjoyed it. I can see how someone playing on a PC would be f*cked off though.

The things that made id good back in the day don't really apply any more, so it's tricky for them. The simple engines of UT99 and QIII did work really well, but i'm not sure they'd be what people want now. Epic and id need to try something new. Re-hashes of old franchises don't often seem to work. I'll wait and see with Doom 4 though.

Maybe. It all depends how much of the original engine remains in UE4 and who still remains at epic that worked on the original game.

But at this point I'd rather see a new singleplayer Unreal anyways, taking place on the world from the original game (Na Pali) with the new Unreal Engine 4.

As for Rage, I'm about 2 hours in. I fit a gun to my vehicle finally, they did a decent job with that. Nothing like blowing up some bandits with a gun turret. Also the crossbow is pretty dang good times.

Yes I am lol. Its a fair comparison. I could compared the workmanship of a Intel MMX to a Intel i7 as well. Just saying Carmack is old news and everything does feels old. I understand and appreciate was he's done but he's not making amazing new emergent gameplay.

While I still think Carmack is an excellent programmer. I have to say I was less than impressed with Rage. On the PC it was buggy and looked pretty bad and the game play rather disappointing. I'm not sure if ID becoming part of Bes was a good or bad thing. I'll give Carmark one chance to redeem himself.
