If your console gaming friend had $60 for the Steam Summer Sale and you were converting him into a PC gamer, what games would YOU tell him to buy and make him a believer? The cost of 1 new console game to start his/her new PC gaming library.

(This is a hypothetical situation, i am curious to see what people would tell their friends to buy).

You can include the prices of any game that has been on a daily deal or a flash deal, for example Saints Row 3 was $12.50 on a daily deal or Legend of grimrock was $6 on a flash deal.

I'd need to know the kinds of games they like to play. Throwing a strategy game at someone who gets bored to tears with them isn't necessarily a good idea.

Whatever it is, it should be something unique to PC and building on the PC's strengths, not only graphics but especially gameplay-wise. If they're hardcore about gaming, I'd recommend the awesome DayZ mod.

Lets just say for the sake of the thread they are open to many genres, maybe a strategy game to get them in the door if they have never played them on console.

That's actually quite tricky. I think i'd feel ok with Shogun 2, it's easy to pick up and looks totally epic at times. Skyrim, because it displays how utterly awesome a modded PC game can look in comparison to it's console counterpart. I'd also tell them to try the Amnesia games and spend the rest on whatever they want.
