If we're trying to determine which army could best save the world, sure, USNC could do a hell of a better job than the Resistance in HL. But if we wanted to know what single individual would be the best bet for humanity's future? Freeman. No contest.

Gordon isn't just some over-muscled oaf in a power-armor suit. He has a doctorate in particle physics. He doesn't need an AI to tell him what to do. He can outwit his opponents and manipulate the surroundings to overcome any obstacle. His survival skills in hostile environments are unmatched. Unlike MC, he doesn't have a technologically advanced army covering his back to assist in saving the world. Because he doesn't need one! All he has is a motley crew of outmatched resistance fighters against the entire might of the Combine. Gordon is the underdog.

Take away Master Chief's armor and he's a sitting duck. (His armor looks gay anyway.) And what kind of name is "Master Chief"? It's a slight step up from Master Chef. Hardly the type of name that strikes fear in heart of his enemies.

Gordon chose to take part in it even knowing the consequences could be disastrous.

The pawns cannot always shirk their responsibilities and blame it on the suits. That's been tried many times in history, and it never holds up. Just following orders? No. As individuals we have the ability to choose to act or not, so each individual is responsible for their own actions. Quit being a cretin.

How do you know that Gordon was even fully aware of the consequences? Gordon may have had an inkling from a few vague hints made by colleagues, but none of that conclusively warranted suspending the experiment. What grounds would he have for going to the administrators and demanding they cancel the experiment? Idle water cooler chatter?

Hindsight's 20/20. You know the experiment failed because you played through the game and already know the outcome.

Let's start from the bottom. His name is John. John-117, last name unknown (highly classified). His rank is that of Master Chief Petty Officer. As for striking fear in the heart of his enemies: the Covenant refer to him as the Demon, so fear is definitely something that he's got working for him.

Take John's armor away, and he is an exceptionally well-trained augmented super-human. Hardly a sitting duck, in sharp contrast with Gordon Freeman who, without his suit, has to resort to running away from the enemy to defeat them.

John-117 is the only Spartan-II for as far as I know that's so connected to an AI. However, it's only in select missions in the Halo games that Cortana's even with him. Most of the time he has no AI telling him what to do. He outwits opponents, manipulates surroundings and blows **** the **** up to overcome any obstacles. His survival skills in hostile environments outmatch those of Gordon "Oww steam hurts" Freeman. Unlike Gordon, the Chief knows who and what he's fighting for and he's doing it well, despite the fact that the UNSC is as outmatched against the Covenant as the rebel fighters are against City 17's Combine. Every Spartan in the field has an exceptional combat record. Every known HEV-suit in the Half-Life universe is either used by Gordon, or currently inhabited by a corpse on Xen.

Take away Gordon's suit, and he's an egghead who can throw away cans. One with a goatee and a tail even, talk about gay... Give him a suit and he can do specific damage in specific locations. Take away John's suit, and he's still better than any soldier. Give him a suit and he can defeat entire armies. Any Spartan can.

Sorry Spara, but if you'd know your Halo lore you wouldn't even bother trying to side with The Free Man.

    Ok. Fair enough.

I voted UNSC, because its represented as one of the most organized militaries in any of the games. The canon has them fighting against a technologically and numerically superior enemy for over 30 years. So if we were under invasion and we had some god child telling us we could have an army from a game? I'd want the UNSC. The MC is just icing on the cake at that point.

You want force projection, you'd need massive numbers of troops and ships and of the options presented the UNSC has that, the others do not.

Now, for options not presented in the poll? I'd choose the GTVA from Freespace, its represented as yet another well equipped and organized military force.

I chose Halo, though, I would say any Final Fantasy crew would do fine :).
