w/that mobo your mem. should be in dual channel and u gotta use 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 slots.
I think he said slots 3 and 4 don't work so that points to bad board or bad CPU
Or incompatible RAM... but now we determined it does not make a significant impact on gaming, so I will just let it be...
--- Post Update ---
I really hope NewEgg will allow RMA of memory to go through. I heard horror stories when they refused to RMA motherboards due to bent pins, considering that an end user fault. I know one set of RAM will have to go through as it was mislabeled (so, it was a different product than the one I bought), and the other kit is just not compatible (but may still be working for some motherboards...in dual channel).
Well, newegg is great. Everyone knows that. If you are eager to get this mess cleared up, log into your account and the online chat. Tell them what you told us. I think at that point they will gladly work with you to get the parts you need.
Regardless though, my advice is to exchange for some low voltage corsair for a few bucks less (as your performance wont differ with 1600 vs 2900000 speeds. Spend the few bucks to swap the cpu for a k, and hit them up for a new mobo while they are at it.
I only suggest Corsair because of the quality of their customer service, as I would Newegg, Evga and Danger Den.
have you checked if pins are bent in the board? i would.. if they're OK work with the supplier for RMA as the guy above said.Or incompatible RAM... but now we determined it does not make a significant impact on gaming, so I will just let it be...
if the pins arent bent and you keep it, in its currently semi buggered state, you're doing yourself out of a fair bit of money if you ever come to sell it. people will pay peanuts and you might be able to resolve this easily by checking the pins and sending a few emails.
just check the pins and stop flapping. anything else is cake. So, I guess it is nothing to be depressed and agitated on daily basis about..??

I usually sell my outdated PCs to my family. For now all I care about is that my PC is not underperforming significantly.
I get goose bumps just from thinking about re-sending the CPU, the motherboard, the RAM, etc... and having to put it all together. I know that is not the spirit of a PC building enthusiast, but 2-4% performance improvement is not worth the effort of taking out the motherboard, CPU, etc., sending it back, waiting for new parts, not knowing if they will be broken, and not even knowing whether they were the problem in the first place. Too much worrying, stress over too small of a performance boost. It is a health, mental health decision, given my conditions.
Today, a kit of 2x4Gb RAM that is on the ASUS Qualified Vendor List is coming. If it was not mislabeled like the last one, I will finally know if it was RAM causing the issue of dual channel. ASUS very specifically stated that RAM LED may lit up & boot may fail if the RAM used was not on that list and neither of my kits were. It makes no sense to blame anything but the RAM, until proper RAM is used. Other facts do point at the motherboard, not sure about CPU...
Which bent pins on the motherboard were you talking about? In the DIMM slots? I have not noticed any defects with the motherboard...

memory probs with these pinless cpu's can mean the pins in the CPU socket are bent...
if they arent, there isnt much else you could bend / damage physically easily, anyway.
i thought that was what you meant when you said you were worried about bending the pins![]()
I have no idea which pins people were talking about. I just read several NewEgg reviews, where people could not RMA their ASUS motherboards because "NewEgg considered bent bins to 'end-user damage'".
And now back to stress relieving gaming and enjoy super fast PC... I wish I could do this in a hot tub...
