Like I said before, probably down to D3 deal. Probably fall quite a bit when that runs out.

    Re: WoW still 10.2m

D3 deal saved wow, absolutely. I nearly fell for it myself!

The achievement system added in 2008 also helped save wow: Recently I asked Stormwind chat how many would stay subscribed if the achievement system didn't exist, most of them said they wouldn't. Achievements are wonderous, and I bet Blizzard wishes they had it in place for version 1.0 in 2004.

As for D3, I will get myself a sweet physical copy from the store when it's time.

I believe the annual pass only has 1.2 mil of the subscribers signed up, so take that away and you still have 9 mil active subs..

That is still about 1/10 of the playerbase. Quite a blow to any MMO if that many people stopped paying.

Exactly. That would be a massive loss for blizzard.

You're making the assumption that the majority of those AP accounts wouldn't be subscribed now if not for the AP deal. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people who signed on for the AP would likely still be subscribed even without the promotion.

Exactly. I got the Annual pass for Diablo 3, but I would have continued to stay subscribed to wow anyway. The AP was just a Win/Win for me.

Yeah I guess 1.2 million is still quite a significant amount, but how many of those are actively playing, maybe they just scooped it up to grab D3 for free and jump into wow when they're bored, or for the MoP beta.

Can't wait to see what Diablo 3 does to this game tomorrow.

So they're committing to pay at least $155 just so they get Diablo 3 for free? Even when you toss in the MoP beta and Tyrael's Charger it still isn't worth it unless you're actually planning on playing WoW for the next year. Anyone who signed up for the AP to get Diablo 3 for free is an incredible moron.
