If it was in Australia the police would be all over it.

You can literally call the police up anonymously, tell them someone had been hooning (even if your making it up) and get their plate numbers and type of car and it will be confiscated from owner for 30 days with demerit points and fine.

By the time the owner fights it in caught the 30 days will be up, he will have court fees, impound fees and won't be refunded for the fine.

Cops are even allowed to inspect your car for defects or illegal modifications. And given most cops know little to nothing about cars they generally make **** up if they are having a bad day or they don't like your attitude forcing your car off the road and forcing you to pay for road worthy inspection.

So much revenue gets made on Australian roads. Should have seen the Easter Holidays. They reduced speed limits everywhere and had speed traps around every corner along with a massive amount of extra police patrolling the roads.

If someone reported a damaged car cops would be all over it.

All you needed to do was say, "YES", the car is dangerous and should be pulled over ASAP.
Of course, if you prefer to keep out of it and seeing some innocent passenger being killed or maimed, that's your call.

No different from our local *555 to report dangerous drivers but, unfortunately, it's a bit like the Aussie case where the word of the anonymous complainent seems to carry more weight that the driver reported.

You should be able to phone up anonymously and help them out, but they seem hell bent on being arse holes.

They also spend too much time pulling people over who are doing 66mph in a 60, instead of pulling over people driving like complete idiots or in vehicles unroadworthy.

66 mph is still breaking the law if the speed limit is 60 and u should get pulled for it.

It isn't because there is a margin of 10% + 2mph to take into account faulty speedo's / speed cameras.

Saying that, people who drive just above the speed limit annoy me more than those who completely ignore it because they are driving around waving two fingers at the law.

I think Pug is being the good citizen but it's being spat back in his face as the operator is just being plain daft with the questions. Though I do agree that maybe you should have put your foot down in order for him/her to shut up and get the car seen to.

These systems shouldn't be made difficult or complicated as those who do bother to report crime / incidents would give up.

Sorry Pug, but the onus is on you to make a complaint and state is as such, otherwise the police can't really act.

The 10+2 seems to be a recommended guideline rather than a fixed policy.

Down here they introduced the RADAR traps as having a 10kph allowance but they then introduced a 5kph allowance on holidays - or when they felt like it.
As the speedo's are allowed to read up to 10% fast, but not slow, you can have noddies sitting in the passing lane at quite a bit below the legal speed, let alone within the tolerance - however, with a lot of 4WD vehicles fitting oversized tyres, they could be quite a bit above the limit, anyway!
Cameras just result in a fine but if an officer pulls you for speding, you'll also get points on your licence - perhaps because when they pull the driver over, they actually know who was doing the speeding.
I've a RADAR/LIDAR, etc, detector that was top of the range when bought but, TBH, it hardly got used and has been in the box for almost the last three years. I was really only for passing lanes as most drivers here seem to drive well under the speed limit on the open road until they reach a passing lane when they put their feet down - means you have to go quite a bit faster for a safe pass (TED) before slowing down to a more legal pace. Unfortunately, the Gestapo tend to take advantage of this and put their traps towards the ends of these lanes hence the need for the detector. Of late, though, I tend to cruise just over the legal speed and see what sort of fuel mileage I can get - around 50 mp(IMP)g.

What's more important, IMO, is maintaining following distances, staying in the lane unless indicating first, looking after the vehicle maintainance, etc.

I did, however, it's not for me to decide what I want them to do. I give them the facts, if they feel they should act, follow their process, NOT put the onus back on the one who's reporting it. I'm not a policeman, therefore, I'm not in a position to advise them how to do their job. I know for next time, I'll just follow the cab home, drag the fecker out the car, bitch slap him and remove the battery from the car lol... oh yeah and then slap the frigger again lol

So one should always be punished with zero tolerance for any, most minute, violation of any law, correct?
