Is there a website that sells a bunch of these? I find some sites that sell 1 or 2 but that is it.
I found a cheap laptop I may get, and then just upgrade it.

Various sources, ebay, forums at notebookreview and a few other scattered places.
It's really a shame there isn't more retailers catering for these cards, I gave up trying to upgrade my lappy because prices were extortionate on ebay for a reasonable upgrade.
My 7970 was £330 with delivery to the UK *shrugs* that's not the worst as far as a mark up goes.
The 580M literally is as expensive from Nvidia as it is sold for and the 6970M and 6990M are much more affordable.
it may not work...
I tried upping the cpu of my i7-720 laptop to an 820 and it wouldnt show anything on the screen
I think they make it work just for how it is to save money that the compatbility with other things is not there so whatever it comes with it would only work with that besides the ram and hard drive and it's optional higher-end parts for the same model
upgrade cpu/gpu on a laptop is tricky
bios/software is one that needs to support it
then if it can handle power and cooling
i dont know about your laptop in general but check the forum on that specific model
i own an alienware and reading the post, they can be upgraded
Even XPS models can be tricky to upgrade some parts. The XPS M1730 requires taking much of the system apart to access its GPU cards. Most laptops have accessible service manuals which guide you through, however I haven't read many manuals better than the HP ones when it comes to guiding you through.
MSI models are silly easy. One panel and there is your CPU, memory, HDDs and graphics. Other side under the keyboard is mem and wifi slot just above it.
