This will just make the people that buy a game and sell it after completion like many people do.
Pirate it instead.
So... if you weren't supporting the industry in any way, how would removing your ability to bypass the industry make it collapse?
Do you mean the reselling games industry? Then yes, poor gamestop will have to make money in some fashion other than robbing game companies blind.
I've been playing PC games since before the CD key was invented, and never missed the ability to resell them or buy them used. Console gamers will figure out how to cope.
I think that this will be great for big companies, big AAA titles, and 1st party titles. That is what will be advertised on the online stores, and it will be all you see at Best Buy shelves. Those 2nd rate games, games from small companies, etc I think will get hurt bad. They already have limited shelf space and time, they won't be on the top 20 list of games to buy on the online store, which will make it hard for word to spread.
I rather shop at a used game store because they have huge diversity of their games. If GameStop wasn't around and I all shopped at was Best Buy, I wouldn't know or have played half the games I do because Best Buy doesn't have them.
I think you misunderstand Ruz,If whatever title I was after was affordable for me,I would buy it new.I think the point I was trying to make was,I wouldn't have the need to buy 2nd hand if the prices weren't so high.I would imagine a very high percentage of parents buy 2nd hand games for their kids due to the high cost of games.I'm not saying it's right to buy 2nd hand games, but if the service is there,it's gonna get used, who doesn't like saving money!?As for the industry collapse,no,not the used market, the retail market. If people can't sell on games they've completed,or find they're poor games(of which there are many,TBH),they gonna find it hard to justify handing over for a full price game.Admittedly, the position i am financially these days,I have no need to buy used games, unless it's an old title no longer on retail
Many console gamers on this forum used to boast about how much money they saved buying and reselling their used copies, often touting it as an advantage over PC gaming. Now that next-gen consoles might do away with used market all together, it's no long advantageous? Talk about moving the goalposts!
Nah I get it. My point was just that even though it was good for you to get those games cheaper, it didn't help the developers of those games one iota. Also, if used games are taken out of the equation, then I reckon we'll see more sales on full priced new games, a la steam, and the pricing won't be as much of an issue.
I am not among them. The prices you received for selling your used games was down right criminal (I got 25 cents for a game in mint condition once), and then if you went to buy one used, you saved a whopping 99 cents to 3 dollars off the retail price. Why anyone wants a system like that to flourish is beyond me.Originally Posted by Sparafucil

i always thought people only sold games that had little replay value. i guess thats why this is so relevant to crytek.
This would actually end up bringing new game prices down, as retailers would end up discounting them heavily to keep sales volumes and therefore forcing the companies to lower the cost price.
