PC dead probably after a lightning storm.

I tried to turn on the last Thursday my PC with the surprise that it didn't. It turns on for less than a second and inmediately turns off. The fans spin for the aforementioned amount of time also but turns off at the same time. I've read that maybe the problem is the PSU or the motherboard is dead. But power comes to the motherboard, the little green light turns on, so the board has power. I didn't have time to test thoroughtly all the components, and also I need to know the problem to solve it, I need the PC for some university work. I blame the PSU. I have seen the same symptoms and every time it has been a bad PSU.

I forgot to add that my multifunction printer MFP also broke out, it doesn't turn on again, when I press the start button, its an HP Photosmart 3310. When it receives power, it makes a strange noise at the right of the printer, behind the scanner. The wireless led also turns on interminently for a brief period and then turns off.
I have my pc, mfp, adsl modem, monitor and an old Sony sound system connected at the same outlet, but only the tower and mfp stopped working probably after the thunder.

It happened to you more than one time?, because of a lightning storm also?. Can be a bad power button?.

Something like that happened to my X58A-UD7. It was the mobo, it just died and fried every USB device I had connected to the USB ports at the back.

the fact it powers on briefly indicates the switch is working (or it wouldnt turn on at all)

clear CMOS, if still no good, unplug drives, any other cards in the PC except graphics, and try again.

if thats still buggered get another "known good" power supply, if it fails then its likely the board. happy hunting.

Well, there isn't any other way to try?. I can't just buy a PSU, and if it doesn't work, try changing the mainboard!. Motherboards and PSUs are expensive, especially the PSU.

you didnt tell us if you cleared CMOS and tried it.

then tried the system with everything unplugged (from the board and the PSU) except graphics.

easiest way to test PSU (if you dont have one to test with) is to take it to shop to be tested.
if ok > replace board.
