Players don't have to resort to using more powerful weapons, just because newer players tend to favour them. If the map dictates that kind of mentality though, fair enough.
I prefer to adapt my playstyle, it enhances my skill level and weapon knowledge, this increases my overall enjoyment of the game. I've used a variety of weapons when others have run around with the mp5 etc, i still had fun and managed to top score.
Agreed, it's sad to see a sniper picked off by someone with an smg halfway across the mapI wish developers would get the balance right. The later CoD's added too many weapon variations and perks in my opinion, resulting in an unbalanced multiplayer experience and reduced learning curve.
There have been some good games in the COD series I even somewhat enjoyed modern warfare 2 but I refuse to buy regurgitated versions of the same game over and over. If they came out with something actually new I would be more inclined to try it. Hands down tho the WW2 cod's were my favorite.
Oh and I also won't be buying BO:2.
Newer players, good player use good guns, that the universal truth of fps games. You dont use a gun because its "HARD" to use, if you want to win you play to win. If your just looking for fun you play for fun. Both dont have to be mutually exclusive but when you are given a game so poorly balanced for the pc as cod4 they become mutually exclusive.
Just because a gun is hard to use doesn't mean it's garbage or has no use at all. You claim there are only 3 decent weapons in CoD4, i disagree. Are some guns more powerful than others? Yes, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to counter someone using that setup & playstyle. Placing a more powerful gun (plus the right perks) in the hands of a noob, doesn't automatically level the playing field.
Having guns that are harder to use presents a challenge for players of all skill levels, increasing the learning curve and longevity of the game. Players have the option to adapt and discover which maps and tactics suit that weapon choice, providing they are willing to put in some time and effort.
If the developer gets the balance wrong it has a negative effect on the multiplayer experience, reducing the learning curve and severely limiting the options available to the player. In some instances though it's the players fault, they either lack the skill or the ability to think outside the box.
This is coming from you, someone who never competed in cod4. If you had you would be singing a different tune. Whent he game first came out the first month of competition you might as well called the title "p90 the video game". It matters not if other guns can be useful, its a question of winning, if it require more risk and effort with gun B why the hell would anyone use it over a safer bet i.e gun A. Having unbalanced guns does not increase a games longevity, look at quake, each gun has a purpose with minor arguments for a few but still each has a purpose. In cod4 why would anyone use the uzi over a p90? Explain to me why the uzi is even in the game if its not remotely balanced to be useful? PERKS? perks are the most unbalanced thing in the game, wann play SD defense everyone grab claymores and sprint and rush bombsites and lay them down GG its like multiplying your team by 3. OMG triple stun!!!!!!!!hello insta win. Stop arguing that the game has balance it has NONE. Multiplayer experience in cod4 is garbage after the initial WOW factor of rank ups and explosions wears off.
CoD's done. Time for something new by Activision. Oh wait, they are seemingly incapable of making their own new properties and only cash in on existing ones. I wonder what their move is if CoD ever fails to bring in money? I know Captain Price is pretty popular, maybe he'll get his own game?
