Problem with Steam

I had to format my C: drive due to a stupid trojan. Anyway, I have my Steamfolder on drive D:, and all files are still there. Now I started Steam from that folder, but I cant play any game without Steam downloading the whole game files again. Even though they're already there.

How can I make Steam recognize the already installed game files so that I dont have to download all games again?

Just move all the files from your Steam\SteamApps\Common folder into your new Steam\SteamApps\Common folder, restart Steam, install game and it should just pick up the already existing files from the folder.

Well I started Steam from the install folder. It wasnt deleted because I installed Steam on Drive D.

So will I have to uninstall Steam but save the Steam folder, then reinstall Steam and copy the steamapps files into the newly installed steam folder?

Just delete ClientRegistry.blob and it should sort itself out. I do this when ever I format.

If Steam can write on the folder, then it should have no trouble just verifying each game, but it will still say it is downloading. You need to check what Steam says it's downloading vs how much actual bandwidth you're using.

If the disparity is large then Steam is in fact verifying the files. It may still have to download some other software for the install to work, like DX9 files ect ect.
