Just a heads up guys, I've just seen at another forum of one of the major UK etailers that the price of the 79XX series will be dropping to £299 for the 7950 and £350-360 for the 7970 over the next few days. I'll not say who as they mistakenly advertised the new price for 10 minutes or so on their site.
78XX series will remain unchanged for the foreseeable.
It looks like AMD are blinking first!

You've seen it posted on XS (linked to OCUK) and the original news came from Hardware Canucks.
Word spreads quickly, though; especially on forums such as this. Not everyone reads forums, however. The rest get someone else to build it or just don't care either way, or are fanboys.
Nope, it was on OCuk as they'd updated their site with the new prices by accident and took it down again 10 minutes later... Somebody spotted it and posted a thread about it where Gibbo confirmed it.
Glad I saw this, sold both my used 7970's on craigslist today.

The cards do seem to have dropped in price, but the cheapest over @ OCUK is now £395.99, nowhere near the £360 kitch suggests. In short, barely cheaper than a GTX 680 and still too much.
At current conversions that is 620+ dollars. A bargain.
