Nintendo Wii U costs 190 to make - sub 250 launch price possible?

This is interesting, I think if it launches at below 250 they will make a lot of sales. If it goes in at 299 it will struggle for traction and retailers will force their hand by discounting.

    Will you buy one?

TBH it isn't even on my radar. Not until I see some games for it that I care about.

I was looking forward to it, but im not really that sure anymore, i think it depends on how much weaker it is than the competition, and its games. I been thinking about dropping some money on a PS Vita or 3DS, i have also been toying with the idea of just goin for a new GPU soon and not looking much at consoles at all.

I won't be getting one especially if this Gamespot report is true that it will retail for at least $300 USD when it launches. It just won't be worth it to me given that it will only be marginally more powerful than the 360 or PS3 at best.

I'd be contented if it could just go toe to toe with the PS360's best. I'm really more interested in what the controller can do for gameplay, and what types of non-gaming features they may also introduce.

Price seems fair, but it's all about he games. E3 has to show something.

Re: Nintendo Wii U costs 190 to make - sub 250 launch price possible?

As far as Wii U hardware, I thought the CPU was pretty much a given already. I thought we knew already what kind of chip was going to be in there from an IBM press release, minus all of the detailed specs of the new chip.
    http://www-03.ibm.com/press/us/en/pr...ease/34683.wss

If this is to be based on the Power7 arch, and one looks up Power7 details, they are 4, 6 and 8 core chips with 2.4GHz to 4.25GHz clock speeds, can have up to 32MB L3 and each core can handle 4 threads.
I'd imagine a multiple core chip (even 2 cores wouldn't surprise me) with a lot of L3, because of the small case the Wii U is, and wouldn't be surprised to see clock speeds in the ~1.5GHz range to keep heat and power down to a minimal.

From earlier rumors, which I still trust more so than these newer ones, is even the new xbox is sticking with IBM Power chips which seems to be the way to go.

I can't say I would. The library of games that Nintendo has is rather lame TBH.

I suppose if they all end up relatively similar, it comes down to when has the exclusives you prefer. I'd still rather play Mario and Zelda games than Gears of War or Forza. Maybe that's lame

Re: Nintendo Wii U costs 190 to make - sub 250 launch price possible?

Apparently this is a list with current known Wii U games.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...es#cite_note-3

With some of those big name games in there, seems like this thing should be pretty decent. At least easy/easier to port to. Maybe because it is on-par with current generation, or is better than current generation. At least that list looks more interesting than the best top 20 list currently on the Wii imo.
