Even if this were to turn out a bad port, I welcome the release of a console game that PC gamers have actually been asking for. Awesome that this is happening at all, because I'm sure it wouldn't have unless people had been so up in arms about it!

I do hope it becomes a financial success though.

Why do you think so? There's something slightly elitist about your post. PC diehards only hate games that suck. If it's a solid game then I'm sure we'll love it.

This game is very hardcore, surely one that will shine on the PC if ported properly. I'll pre-order it.

PC die hards are very good at ignoring qualities that make a game a good console game, and excellent at finding console game qualities that aren't very welcome on PC. Plenty of awesome console games wouldn't be heralded as such on PC, much like how a PC RTS wouldn't please any console gamer. Halo's a good example: great on consoles, a great series with only great games... Yet none of them really shine on PC.

I imagine the same could possibly happen to Dark Souls, although I don't know the game well enough to make any keyboard warrior predictions.

This simply isn't true. There are quite a number of excellent, innovative console games that have been well received by the PC gaming community. (Braid, for instance.) If a game has any intrinsic merit, it can shine on the PC, if done well.
