People fear change, I didn't like Steam when it came out but it just kept getting better, Origin numbers just come from forcing registered EA titles onto a persons 'Origin' account. While Steam numbers are really customers.
But Windows 8 is a big change underneath too, there's no way to get those kind of benchmark results with a simple reskin of Windows 7.

Hmm
Yea i know, all companies make projections of where they think their market is heading, and what they think they should be doing to keep up. That doesn't mean they get it right though, many get it completely wrong and as a result, pay the price for taking the company in the wrong direction. Stardock seem to be suggesting "put all your eggs in one basket," which is never a wise thing to do.
Windows 8 = attempt to leverage desktop OS near-monopoly to take a major chunk of the tablet market where iOS and Android rule at the moment.
Previous attempts (pen interface in Win7 and Vista) were obvious epic fails, so they are going for more radical approach. And hey, Metro may be a fine UI for tablets and phones, but it is terrible on the desktop and forcing it on the desktop will blow up on MS face.
The OS has some nice features apart from the UI so I really don't know what to think about it. Will probably not upgrade though.
