    AM3+ Motherboard suggestions needed please

I have a asus m4a785td-v evo motherboard with a AMD Phenom 2 x4 965 & up untill now I dont think there have been any upgrades processor wise that I would of considerd to be worth it if I stay with AMD. But now I see there are some options but I would have to get a AM3+ Motherboard or better but for now AM3+ will do. I am wondering for about £100 just under or over what would be the best Motherboard I could get that is compatible with the AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4170 Black Edition 4.20Ghz ?

I have 4 Sata HDD's & 1 Sata DVD Rewriter would need 5 sata slots minimum & support crossfire

And also in terms I can understand how does the AMD Phenom 2 x4 965 3.4 ghz compare against the AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4170 Black Edition 4.20Ghz ?

I would suggest this board, Asus M5A99X EVO. I love mine. Has everything you want and under your price. Cheers

Re: AM3+ Motherboard suggestions needed please

For AMD motherboards I am a big Gigabyte fan. They make good boards. UD3, UD5, UD7 are their high end AM3+ boards.

The Phenom II X4 in the easiest and simplest terms: It is a lot better

Now if all you are doing is going to game with a high end card at high end resolutions than the Bulldozer might be slightly faster because of the high clock speed advantage, but everywhere else it will be a lot worse.

    Just look at the graphs:

A Phenom II X6 would be a better upgrade.

Can't really see the point in getting AM3+. Especially if you don't even have the money for the complete upgrade. If I were you I'd save until you have the money and go intel. Bulldozer is a bust, and clearly not worth the money. Previously I often favoured AMD because of price performance but this time they are not at the races.

Bd is not as bad as these people will tell you, a quad core BD at 4.2ghz will not be a bad choice unless you want to run super pi..if you use it for gaming and multi media performance it will be@par with an x6 I'd wager.

I'd stick with Asus, I have never had any problems at all with Asus boards and they are always very solid and stable in my experience.

Re: AM3+ Motherboard suggestions needed please

See, the thing about gaming is even if he were to get a BD-4100, in a lot of games at high resolution with a solid card it will perform as good as an i7-2600k. Yet we all know how much better a 2600k is.

If the main thing is gaming, best to spend money on a solid GPU and just get a whatever CPU. But the thing is, a 4100 won't perform better in games when it is practically already identical, just like many other CPUs.
Anyways, other than gaming, the 4100 is going to perform worse a vast majoirty of the time compared to the CPU that he currently has.

Now the 6100 is a different story, but still a sidways upgrade and not worth a penny vs going from a Phenom II X4. Only CPU really worth it imo is an i7 or BD-8120/8150

Nonsense. The 7970 paired with a BD gets about half the performance of a SB setup in many games even at the highest possible resolution and level of detail.
