MS increases win7 / vista lifespan

    http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/20...ista-support/1

Under the new changes, the home releases of both Windows 7 and Windows Vista will now qualify for the additional five-year 'extended support' period previously restricted to the business-oriented releases. As a result, those still running Vista get a reprieve: the original schedule would see support for the operating system end in April this year. Under the new scheme, all editions of Windows Vista will qualify for extended support until 2017 while Windows 7 will be supported until 2020.

could be hedging against the new Win8 front end not being liked maybe?

Nice find. I guess XP went through a similar thing at one point, but I didn't think Microsoft would be eager to support Vista for another 5 years yet.

Windows 7 I can understand. It's been a good OS. But Vista? They need to take every last cd copy they have out to the shooting range and have some target practice.

Well that's a surprise. Win7 supported until 2020!? MS not really backing win8, obviously.

I was only thinking of home OS's.

    NT, 2000, 2003, 2008, etc, I think of as business/server OS's.

I remember using 2000 instead of XP for a long time.

That still doesn't make it a home OS.

    http://books.google.com/books?id=Fdj...d 2000&f=false
Windows 2000 Professional was intended for business use, not home use.
The home counterpart to Windows 2000 was Windows ME.

I was not including business/server OS's because they are usually more stable, more QC, and have more support.

Anyone remember how hard XP sucked when it was released? I was just like Vista, but worse. It wasn't until SP1 that became good enough to use.
