Because I might just get an LCD and a plasma later if it is likely to lose the flicker in newer models as although I really like the PQ on panny plasma the flicker is annoying because I sit with the TV perpendicular to my PC screen so it is in the corner of my eye all the time = Make the flicker extremely annoying! (try looking at your plasma out of the corner of your eye... Annoying flicker!) WHY cant they just make them not flicker because the panasonic obliterates other TV's in almost every other way except the stupid flickering!
Maybe I am used to it but I do not see flickering in the corner of my eye on my V10 or VT30.
As I mentioned before, I see it briefly when the display powers up and it is bright white and every now and then when there is nothing but a white screen but outside of that, I rarely ever notice it.
Hmm the VT30 did seem slightly better then the G/GT for flcikering but it was still there.... I am thinking of getting the 42VT30 although it is a lot of money
Ok a couple more questions before I possibly pull the trigger on a VT30....
Is the fluctuating brightness problem fixed now on the VT30 (is it fixed on all models now) ?
If I wanted to play games via PC on it and I set the PC settings to 50hz output.... Will the TV then upscale this to 100hz? Thus avoiding flickering? (eg. 60hz will display at 60hz but will 50hz Pc output display at 100hz?) Maybe it will cause other problems but most important for me is avoiding flicker... Maybe mutelight knows this?
Fluctuating brightness is fixed up to the point I described before, for VT30 as well.
My G30 upscales 24->48hz so I don't see why the VT30 wouldn't upscale 50->100hz.
Last warning though: You keep bringing up the flickering but I think there are much more prevalent issues with the Pannys. Namely motion dithering and phosphor trailing. They're not game-breakers but you should be aware of them, you will notice them and you'll have to get used to them.
Hmmm I was under the impression that the motion breakup is VERY subtle on the VT models.... Apparently you can barely notice t even if you are looking for it and only in certain scenes... It is supposedly better on the VT.... Hmmm about the phosphor trailing I thought the panasonics were supposed to be really good for this? Is this something you only see in games or do you notice on films as well? I am mainly going to be using it for films and TV.... Maybe the VT is better for phosphor trailing then the G models?
I have never seen a 100hz panel as we don't have any here in the states. All plasmas here run at 60hz and some will switch to 96hz when 24p content OS fed to them, so I cannot comment.
The panels on my TVs at least are very fast and I have not seen noticeable phosphor trailing with my current settings.
Subtle or not is pretty subjective, I'm just saying you will most probably notice it. It's like a batch of mosquitos buzzing around wherever it happens. Usually moving bright images bring it out. I don't think there's any difference between the different Pannies in this regard, where'd you get that idea?
I don't notice any phosphor trailing in films. It mainly pops up with 60fps gaming and usually looks less like trails and more like oversaturation of green or red colors when moving. There's again no reported difference between the different models with regards to phosphor trailing. I think even Panny says all the new neo-PDP panels use the same phosphors.
As I understand from reviews, 2D image-wise the G30/GT30/VT30 are very similar. The better filter gives the GT30 and VT30 an advantage in bright viewing conditions and the VT30 apparently has higher refresh rates. Color accuracy, motion handling and black level seem to be pretty much equal between the screens from all I've gathered. The VT30 has better calibration controls to make sure you can fine-tune it, unlike the G30 and maybe the GT30 where if you get a panel that's very off it might be harder to get it perfect without using a PC.
I think the motion dithering is the most noticeable issue with these screens. Phosphor trailing pops up here and there but it's lesser of the two nags.
EDIT: I read that the VT30 has two glasses while the others have one glass, which may cause a double image effect when viewing from off-axis. I have personally noticed this on my brother's old Panny plasma, but you'd have to watch from pretty close distance and off-axis to see it.
