Yeah you just gotta love these new chips. I think i'm going to upgrade if i can get a new block next week. Which mobo do you recommend my friend?

I would personally go with Asus. I'm on the Sabertooth x79 and it's been running great. But for any x79 motherboard, I highly recommend you pay attention to the VRM's more so then previous generations. They do get pretty toasty when running full tilt overclocked.

Sorry to go a little off topic but what software do you use for video conversion?

    MeGUI using x264

Not as user-friendly as programs like Handbrake or Ripbot264, but a bit more robust and allows you to tweak things you can't do in those other programs.

What file types are you converting and what to? Also do all these programs only use CPU or are they able to use the GPU to convert?

I'm converting lots of different things. HD movies, wedding videos, videos of my diving trips. I've even put my entire DVD and BD collection on my nas for quick access through my PS3. I started doing this when I was deployed to Iraq because I could carry just a single hard drive with all my movies instead of carrying my entire DVD collection into a dusty area.

x264 is CPU bound, so no GPU support. But it also considered one of the best converters out there and I know a lot of people prefer it's output quality more then GPU encoders.

If you want on the fly transcoding, you can go with something with GPU support. But for permanent encodes, x264 on CPU is a better option.
