The reason for all the branded competitions is obviously... sponsorship. To have a competition that has substantial prizes pretty much requires sponsorship and sponsors decide what kind of competition they wish to sponsor.

I think it will benefit alot the sponsor to make other customers that used to always buy specific brand to try one of his own. obviously this can make users to change their mind in the next upgrade also the competition will has a wider spread and contribution.
