    What Powers Your Home?

(As in what kind of electricity powers your home and your area in general?)

    Geothermal Power
    Solar Power
    Natural Gas Power
    Diesel Generating Station
    Coal Power
    Hydroelectric
    Wind Power
    Wave/Tidal Power
    Nuclear Power
    Oil Shale Power (Petroleum)
    Biomass Power
    Other please state

If you do not know, find out.

If multiple forms of power are connected to your lines, choose the one you believe to be closest to your area.

    Hydroelectric here.

    Re: What Powers Your Home?

My house and the area is powered by the massive Path 46 power line. It spans states/countries. There is a nuclear power plant relatively close that powers it, but it's also powered by hydroelectric, biomass, wind, and I'm sure every other variant out there.

Haha, this is pretty funny. I work for a bank and finance loans for electric utilities companies. The power grid really mixes all power together. The closest generating facility to me is Astoria Generating which is a natural gas-fired plant. Surprised so many people say hydro or nuclear, although I guess those plants stick out more than the oil or gas plants which tend to be much smaller.

    Re: What Powers Your Home?

Closest is natural gas, but the UK power grid is pretty compact and complicated with the cities so close to each other, you don't know where the actual current is from. Bigger cities will leech power from smaller cities to maintain power when needed.

Don't know, don't care. As has been said, it's a mix...and I don't care enough to look into what goes into that mix.
