well, i will retire by saying that if we dont know how to go to mars, at the peak of our civilization, then i've no idea how we'll be travelling tens of light years.
if we discount teleportation or wormholes, then we are looking at conventional powered spacecraft.
how would you power a spacecraft to travel to a distant solar system? with current technology the journey would take so long that no one would survive it.
Hmm well as I said we COULD go to mars just we cant afford it because too much money is spent on military and generally wasted on silly things....
Also how do you propose that humans will DE EVOLVE if we do not invent nuclear fusion? Why would we go backwards in technology?!
The theories are that you would need to go faster then light to travel a really long distance so you would need to use worm holes or inter dimensional travel etc.... Admittedly they are just theories but they are not laughed at.... Most of the people at the top level of research etc agree that it is theoretically possible...

Where did you get the idea that we are at the peak of our civilisation? We could go Mars if the will (and money) was there. We've had the capability to go into space for what, 60 years? That's no time at all in the scheme of things. Aliens were here on our planet long ago, taking our dumb monkey asses and converting us to intelligent labor. They observe us as we progress and intervene when needed. Our GODS are aliens. Our religion is a contorted mess of misunderstandings resulting from our interactions with aliens. Our current technological understandings stem from alien technology.

well, i admit that i have a somewhat pessimistic view of our future, but I actually believe that landing on the moon was our finest achievement and that it shall never be bettered.
can anyone point out to me any will or notion on behalf of any nation on earth to achieve anything beyond what apollo achieved?
economies are crashing all over the globe and there is neither the will nor the cash to advance space exploration.
depressing as it may seem, but if things progress the way the are going at the moment, 1969 will be the finest and most magnificent achievement mankind has ever witnessed.
mmm that is similar to what that ancient aliens series says... Although according to golemfrost it is "mindless rubbish"... I think it is an interesting theory and is not implausable.... TBH religous people say with like 100% certainty that jesus did stuff like walk on water and make bread into wine but you say could aliens have possibly visited earth and they would laugh at you and call you mad.....

All through history there have been people like you who have held the opinion that "this is it", mankind has reached its peak, and it's all downhill hill from here; and you know what? It wasn't.
Landing on the Moon was a great achievement, yes, but there have been a ton of other achievements that have had a far wider impact. the invention of the micro-processor for example.
The space shuttle program cost $196 billion over 40 years.
US military spending for just the year 2010 was $500 billion.
That is why we have not gone to mars or beyond.
How much was NASA's budget in 1969 and the US military budget in 1969 when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon?
