What was the ultimate year for good releases tough?

I just recently played through Super Metroid, from start to finish, just to see how well it holds up. It makes other Metroidvanias pale in comparison it is so well designed. Probably the best game that ever come out of Nintendo.

The 90s gave us Blizzard as well.

The 90s for video games could considered what the 70s were for movies.

Wow, that is a bold statement! It is good, great in fact (I love when you get the gravity suit and grappling hook).

But what about Earthbound? Zelda: LttP? Mario 64? Metroid Prime?

Mid-90's by far thats when the PS1 came out and blew everything out of the water. Everything before and after was meh material in comparison. I would say the PS1 was the best ever gaming machine invented by a man. I still remember drooling at the origianl Tekken back in the 90's and nothing ever felt so awesome, fresh and innovative since then,

They're classic because 'data calculation processing power' had nothing to do with it.

Moreso because we were young, had more patience, and home gaming was infantile.

Most of the classic games have either aged poorly or have been outdone by now. Nostalgia plays a huge role in this.

95-05 for me would cover my great games list. Lots of greats in the 80's but snes ps1 produced so many quality games.

I just finished Descent Freespace, for the first time ever other than the original demo, never got a chance to play it in the 90's. It's one of the best games ever. So much fun. Now onto Freespace 2.
