    Duke Nukem Forever

Duke Nukem Forever - in development hell for over a decade, thought to be forever lost when 3D Realms ran out of money with an unfinished game on hand. Yet you can't keep Duke down so easily. Finally, with the co-operation of 3D Realms, Triptych Games, Piranha Games and Gearbox Software, Duke Nukem is finally back, ready to blast the alien scum that is stealing our chicks. Again.

And it would have been better off lost forever. I have to bow my head in shame over the fact that I actually bought it; although I only paid $20 bucks for it as I still had my original pre-order receipt from 10 years ago.

    Re: Duke Nukem Forever

Too bad the game felt so short. No exploration, except for maybe that one massive monster truck map where you can go off path. Hardly anything remained from the best DNF trailer, E3-2001. The two weapon limit is annoying. The mothership attack in the third level, shouldn't that be the last level? Fighting the same boss twice, three times if you count Duke 3D, isn't all that great. I don't get the 14 year development...

After all that, and more that I can't recall right now, it was still an enjoyable experience, just nothing like its predecessors.

The biggest problem I have with the game is that most weapons feel just weak. Most times you dont know if you hit or miss. When you fired a weapon in Duke3d you always got a satisfying response but in DNF most weapons are just boring and no fun to use. And the two weapons only limit just makes it worse. What were they thinking? Maybe somebody will make a mod for it?

    Re: Duke Nukem Forever

81 is way too generous, I had years of fun with Duke 3D, was one of the first games i played multiplayer too, DNF just feels like a hollow shell of a game, with a bunch of "hey guys lets cram this in here somewhere" moments, there are a few slightly funny spots, but most of its just recycled from years ago in the hopes of triggering a nostalgia bomb in players.

Oh and what is up with the simplistic yet incredibly tedious platforming/puzzle bits? No, it just doesnt work, not with an in your face wisecracking hero, to be taken out of the action and do some pointless puzzle is silly (especially that bloody gear thing when you are shrunk, who thought that was a good idea).

I give it a 65 out of 100, its a completely forgettable game, but it is at least a fairly bug free, well running game, in its completely average way.

The weapons are effective - the monsters just fail to really respond to fire visually so they *feel* ineffective because you see no real result until the target croaks.

Then it appears super effective when all the gore and body parts fly...

    Re: Duke Nukem Forever

Awesome and fair review of DNF.

I just dont get why people are whining, games these days dont have fun in them, they are suited for COD slaves with their slow motion replays... those things are just tricks to get people interested..

Good story & awesome replay value for singleplayer if you started from easiest level.

I give SP story 9/10, those dead animations could have gotten game 10.

btw: Now everyone can start saying how re"s"tarded my opionions are, but you guys also did not care original duke on lan!!

    Re: Duke Nukem Forever

Luckily I got to play it through at a friends machine at a LAN party... and seriously this is just sour wine in old bottles.... or as Galvatron would say; "This is bad comedy".
It was "fun" the first 15min then it was really utter bore.[dots]
If you want "Duke Nukem" is highly prefer getting Bulletstorm ! it's what DNF should have been minimum. Bulletstorm isn't fantastic, but it's way better than this IMO.

I have the good old first Duke Nukem release and I had more fun with that game back in the late 90ties.

This game is like a turd with a cherry on top, if it wasn't for Duke there would be no cherry...
