Investigation is still ongoing - this is a very puzzling issue as we have not duplicated it in-house and none of the BDP members (NVIDIA, ATI-AMD, Intel etc) have duplicated it in their massive testing facilities.
Unfortunately, I can duplicate it every time. I'll post again with the result. I'm rebuilding my computer so that might resolve the issue. Changing to a better quality mb. In the process, If I can do some testing, or memory dumps, whatever. Let me know. I think you can tell it's bugging me.

New version of Futuremark System Info seems to solve the problem, atleast for me.
First time I've succesfully run 3D Mark Vantage without any freeze.I tried one more time just to be sure, and run was finished without any problems.

[thumbup] YES!!! The new version of System Info fixed the problem for me too! Ran a full test twice just to be sure.

This fixed the 3dMark Vantage issue for me. Thanks.

Re: PC Freezes with new Patch 1.1.0

I'm experiencing the same issue of screen freezing and C-A-D or Alt-Tab not working so there is no way out except to force an OFF and reboot. I'm tired of doing this so I'll just wait for you to fix SystemInfo. Does your buggy SystemInfo only concern 3DMark Vantage or could it end up messing other programs or IE9 on my system too?

    Here is my system:

    Sager NP9262 High-End Laptop purchased 09-29-2008.
    Windows 7 64-bit
    nVidia GeForce 9800M GTX
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 CPU
    Native resolution 1920 x 1200
    4 GB RAM

BTW, I initially couldn't get PCMark Vantage to run either but discovered the released SystemInfo (not the beta) fixed it just fine.

When I finish my new desktop will 3DMark11 work okay? Is this just a problem with 3DMark Vantage patch 1.1.0 and your current SystemInfo??

Thank you. I'll hang around looking periodically for an update, patch, etc.

Realizing now that a whole month elapsed (August) between the last post and mine is curious... As far as running 3DMark Vantage successfully does it matter what the systems default browser is? Is the browser used somehow throughout the tests?

I know to post on this site I have to set IE9 to Compatibility View.

A browser is used only to display the scores - it shouldn't matter until the end of the run.

4.2 SystemInfo is available either through runnin Game-o-Meter or standalone here

    http://www.yougamers.com/downloads/F..._installer.zip

It will become available as an update through the autoupdate check next week but you can already install it manually and see if it resolves the issue.

Thanks for the 4.2 SystemInfo link. It made no difference. First try with 4.2 it froze part way through the 1st graphic test--the screen went blank and I had no apparent control still minutes later. The second try and just a little ways into the same graphic test #1 the scene froze but didn't go blank. Interesting because this time the fps indicator froze at 22 I believe and the time for the test froze too but the frame number kept incrementing up. When I tried C-A-D a mouse hand appeared for an instant and then the screen went blank and that was it.

The strangeness of this test reminded me of the first time 3DMark Vantage failed that I failed to mention. It was part way through the first graphic test #1 again and all of a suddent the screen broke up almost like a raster pattern in horizontal chucks and lots of flickering all over the screen. I think in this case the screen didn't go blank--but I held down the power button to escape. Out of well over a half-dozen tried now 3DMark has frozen elsewhere--not just in graphic test #1. Once I turned all these tests off and only ran the last section of the tests and the screen froze there promptly.

Good luck continuing to try to resolve this. Thank you.

This kind of failure sounds to me like a potential hardware issue. SystemInfo issues usually are either a problem that prevents the benchmark from starting at all, or inability to properly detect what hardware you have.

Re: PC Freezes with new Patch 1.1.0

Might it be likely my laptop is just to old (over 3 yrs) to try using your latest 3DMark? The main reason I tried was because it supports/tests DX10 which the 9800M supports. I don't think any earlier version of 3DMark supported DX10. When I finish the new machine I thought it would be fun to test it out on PCMark7 and 3DMark11...or I might say to heck with testing and just start playing.
