    What does it tell you

    Hi
I have been trying to use another persons version of pcmark to troubleshoot a pc. But i think its a dud. But i dont want to purchase it yet till i know what it does. I see and know how to perform tests. But when its done and successfuly submitted will it tell you what is failing on a computer. Diagnose parts like motherboard , graphics , power supply etc etc .I am searching a program high and low to test these parts as hard drive and memory is easy to test but looking for other stuff to. Any advice gratefully listened to.
    Thanks

It is not a "fault detection" program. It is a benchmark. There is no magic program that tells what part of your system is faulty (besides the obvious HDD and memory tests, which are different). Only real way to troubleshoot is to replace parts one by one and see if the problem goes away...

3DMark is often used as a stability test to see if the problem does go away (it stresses system, including video card pretty well), but even it can't magically tell what part is failing - it just tends to be a program that does not crash on it's own, so in case it does crash, there is definitely something wrong with the system.
