    Insane Chromatic Aberration?

    Thumb resize.

So... i took this the other day...
I was shooting into the sun, @70mm, f/2.8
Now... I quite like the Chromatic Aberration here... but I have never seen quite so much CA in any other photo... Is it something to do with where/what I am shooting... or should i get my lens checked out? :0
    Shooting with a 24-70 f/2.8 L

Do you have a filter on the front of your lens? That can degrade image quality.

If not, I'd get the lens checked out. I have a 24-70 f2.8 L, and I've never seen CA to that extent, even with my UV filter on the front.

I do use a UV filter, and on checking some other photos I took that day...

I have only had this lens since November, purchased it new, and as its my first L lens, I have looked after it VERY well. :\

It can degrade IQ, but not cause any aberrations....

The other pics you posted don't look bad to me. It may be that the first picture is just one of those challenging shots that really puts a strain on your poor lens. LOL

I just tested my lens wide open on a stick against a bright cloudy sky. With the image sized at 100%, there is some red fringing.

If you shoot at a higher f-stop, it should become less noticeable.

TBH, it's pretty hard to get rid of ALL chromatic aberration in a zoom lens. Good primes are a lot less susceptible to the problem.

Puts my worries to rest then
I really love shooting wide open to be honest, the Bokeh is just awesome :D
Was pretty much the main reason i bought this lens... walkabout + huge aperture [thumbup]
