My Favorite Music/ Music Appreciation Thread

Sooo... Music plays a huge part of my life. I'm more-or-less constantly listening to music one way or another. Parts of songs, especially watching bands live, can bring pure euphoria, make my eyes water, and give me goosebumps. I really have an emotional connection to music.

Because of that, I figured I'd share some of my favorite music with you all. I'm quite sure that many won't like a lot of it, and that's totally fine. Just figured I'd share a big part of my life with a small community that I've been part of for close to a decade [yes]. and maybe some of you will discover music that affects you as much as it does me.

I'll try to provide some diversity relative to my tastes, and everything will be live performances.

    Fleet Foxes
, who I'd describe as the materialization of nature into music form:

    Andrew Bird
, whom I consider to be a musical savant, and is the single most talented 'mainstream'(don't know a better word for it) musician working today in my humble opinion. He's my overall #1 favorite musical artist:

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Relative newcomers to the music industry. I love the palpable enthusiasm and positive energy they bring to the table. Amazing stage presence in my opinion. The only thing that makes me shy away a bit is their work is in commercials and they may be a bit 'trendy':

Grizzly Bear. I actually have only listened to this band for a few months, so I can't really put my finger on what I get out of them. I just know that I really enjoy their sound:

The Shins. James Mercer is one of my favorite musicians. He's the lead singer and also formed the band "Broken Bells" with Danger Mouse. This is kind of the original band that got me really intrigued by music:

Phoenix. They're a hybrid electronic band, and I generally am not really into electronic music, but this band really stuck out for me. It was the incredible fidelity of their live performances that sold them for me:

I could go on but I'll stop there. I don't want to drown anyone in my music tastes. It'd be nice for people to listen and give their opinions on it though [thumbup].

I too, am almost constantly listening to music and have been for as long as I can remember. Most of the songs in my library have certain times in my life and emotions attached to them; some of them I can't listen to without immediately feeling how I did when I heard said song - often times it isn't a "happy" song, lol.

If you don't mind, I wouldn't mind posting some of my favorites. Though my music tastes are varied, I am certainly more inclined to listen to "softer" music.

Absolutely man! I'm hoping this thread turns into something people can check out to find great, inspiring music. It'd be cool if you maybe provided a brief description of what you're sharing as well [yes].

Here's a couple more to add to my arsenal:

Bon Iver, pronounced 'Bone eevair", which is french for "Good Winter", are an all-acoustic band that originated in my home state [thumbup]. The writer/lead-singer, Justin Vernon, isolated himself in a lonely cabin in northwoods Wisconsin for months and wrote all of the songs from his first album, "For Emma, Forever Ago", in solitude. The results, for me, are inspiring and heart-touching, especially as you figure out the lyrics:

Arcade Fire, who shockingly won the Grammy for best album this year, are an epic 7-piece band who seem to truly love the music they play. The band is lead by the husband and wife duo of Win Butler and Regine Chassagne. Their song, "Wake Up" is one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard:
