    Cable Router Bandwidth Loss

Hi Just found out that my old Linksys befrs41 Router is dropping my 10 meg connection to 6ish , is this the sort of normal drop one would expect ... I have 4 Pc`s on my network , all cable have the router here and my pc straight from it , then have two pc`s and a laptop upstairs the all connect to Netgear switch ?

When I have observed this drop only my PC was on the others were all off , I f I get a new Router and its the same thing what a waste of money ...

Cheers any help will be great Kurvz

Well one way to know for sure would be to directly hook up your PC to your cable and see what speeds you get. I do remember the older linksys only being 10Mbps ethernet ports so it could very well be true.

Do a reset on the router to clear the NAT table. When the NAT table gets full it hampers performance. You will get better over all performance from a gigabit network especially if you have more than two device(s)/computer(2) active at one time. My old linksys router had to be reset every 3 months to keep the speed up.

Could be a dying/weak adapter maybe?

With Comcast, they used to send up new adapters for our cable modem whenever they upgrade our speeds.

Even if it was just a 10Mb router, you should still be getting at least near that. I have a 100Mb router/lan for the house and when I do transfers I always hit almost 11MB where 12.5MB is the peak limit.

Hopefully getting a bridge and 1000Mb network here soon. :-)

Did some more research it appears that V1 of that router was 4-7Mbps for wan to lan routing.
