6 core and 4 core question?

Just wondering if the CPU score is going to affect total score like in Vantage? I don't want to buy a $1300 6 Core CPU just to get the extra points.

Just wondering if say 6 core and 4 core (CPU) at @ 4ghz will make much difference in total score?

    Details are here: http://preorder.3dmark.com/benchmarks/

5th test (Physics Test) uses CPU exclusively. 6th test (combined) uses both CPU and GPU. Both are part of the 3DMark score as both affect gaming performance. Exact score and weighing formula can be found in the whitepaper that comes available on launch day.

Will world records be done with 6 core (or 8 or 12 core) setups? Yes. Both CPU and GPU matters.

Well that changes my mind on getting the advanced version of 3Dmark11, Just get the free version now. I don't know any games that run better on 6 core compared to 4 core yet.

Thanks for your help guys in making my decision.

6 core are not mainstream yet so I don't see 8 core coming out next year and 12 core is at least 18 months away.

Stressing the word yet. Unsurprisingly 3DMark 11 is a forward-looking benchmark. And this is what benchmarks do - test what your system *can* do. It can't test what specific games decide to use. Also there are many demonstrated cases where 6-core CPUs give clear framerate benefits in games compared to identical quad setups. Ignoring the CPU because most games are squarely GPU limited is not really an option for a benchmarking software.

You can obviously just use the GPU score for comparing between video cards if you feel that it is the only factor that matters.

I understand where you are coming from. I just won't buy a 980x just so I can get a higher score. Maybe when the main stream 6 core CPU's come out.

Very nice. Higher scores with more cores. Good job. [thumbup]

Have you ran Cinebench11.5 yet. It uses all cores at 100% [yes]
