True, but like clothing, i dont mind paying a bit more for designer labels, but there is a limit. Getting a gentle rape is fine but when they start throwing the Donkey Punches in there to I've had enough.

EDIT: And as Cyberodin states, when you can pay a fair chunk less & get a fair bit more it all gets very silly. The only issue then is having to deal with 2 cards which not everyone likes.

Yeah but what if you wanted to avoid dual GPU? And have the fastest single GPU on the planet, which many will (and why it will sell big time)

True, many will. And some people don't like the heat, power, and space requirements of multi GPU as well as the driver querks so it will sell. My point was merely that for those that don't mind multi GPU buying two mid range cards, or last gen top end cards will give you better price/performance than the next single GPU flagship cards.

I have actually avoided mutli gpu until now, but I'm tempted to give it a go next time round. Its also a way to spread the upgrade cost. Get a modest upgrade for £200 now to later tech, then add a second later for probably a bit less.

If I had sli capable board would of sli'd 9600gt's probably by now just for extra performance! Can pick them up cheap second hand.

SLI seems to scale much better than Crossfire at the moment so even if AMD's offerings have the edge when alone, two nvidia cards that are slightly slower alone would likely be faster than their Crossfire counterparts I think.

My 5970 is my first multi-gpu experience and honestly I didn't run into any more/different problems with two GPUs than a single one wouldn't have the same. Only issue for ATi is when a new/beta game doesn't have a crossfire profile. Just one of these GPUs is still plenty fast though so it's not like your fps crawls to a halt in those cases.

Only when comparing 4xx series to HD5xxx was that true, 68xx series seem to scale much better so I imagine all the 6xxx series will do.

Gibbo from overclockers advised they would have plenty of stock but there will still be relatively little in the UK overall. But he says price will be "well under £500". Depending on your opinion of this statement im thinking £475 will be the figure were looking at til 6970 shows up.

Think ATI should leak some benchmarks/price just the day before nvidia release card just to make people hesistant about going straight to nvidia.

That could backfire though. People who are already hesitant about buying before waiting for all the numbers come in could make their decision after seeing them and go with nvidia instead.

Think my point really is that im not looking to the 6970 to beat the gtx580, just come close enough with a much more pleasant price tag, say £100 cheaper at £350 area would discourage someone thinking of paying £450+ for the gtx580. I for one would likely have to stick with ATI yet again if they have 95% the performance at a good 25%+ cheaper or so. I want to go back to nvidia but they need to get the price closer. Im just speculating though right now as we obviously havent the performance/price yet, just going off the past recent trend.

I'm surprised nVidia are going to release this card before seeing what the other green team really have up their sleeves, unless they already have a pretty good idea and simply want to piss on their fire before they have even launched, maybe this GF110 lark has taken them by surprise, who knows.

Ultimately if it's 5% either way it does all come down to price, and blind loyalty.
